I was just thinking about the word social media as a term answer how it relates to regular media.

Like what is regular media? it's someone that is paid to entertain you for money or influence you for people that pay them for power.

Now the word social media if it relates to old media what would it be at face value. It's a person that is paid to make you feel like you have a social connection with them for money influence you for people that pay them that want power.

Like what was social connections on the internet before the rise of social media.

It was forums and if we look at that word what is it as face value from the word itself its meeting or medium where ideas and views on a particular issue can be exchanged.

Ideas to be exchanged everyone was equal there was no media personalities no popularity contests. No followers just a group of people sharing ideas around a common interest.

How off base am I? did I miss anything in my reasoning here?

Mine installed a pegboard in the pantry. It's incredibly useful for hanging up pots and pans.

I promise this question is asked in good faith. I do not currently see the point of generative AI and I want to understand why there's hype. There are ethical concerns but we'll ignore ethics for the question.

In creative works like writing or art, it feels soulless and poor quality. In programming at best it's a shortcut to avoid deeper learning, at worst it spits out garbage code that you spend more time debugging than if you had just written it by yourself.

When I see AI ads directed towards individuals the selling point is convenience. But I would feel robbed of the human experience using AI in place of human interaction.

So what's the point of it all?

Guess the title says it all.

It seems like if the statement is literal, then it's self-disproving, since the person cares enough to say that, and the person who they were saying that to cared enough to say whatever they said or did prior. Also the likelihood of no one (as in, no human I guess?) caring about what they had to say seems very low, and chances are a large number of other people probably would care, too.

If the statement isn't literal but more rhetorical, then I'm not sure what it means, but I suspect it basically just means "I don't care" (as in the person who says "No one cares" doesn't care themself and wants to express this in a way that seeks to hold more weight by asserting that all other people feel the same sentiment as them, even though arguably they demonstrably care somewhat if they went out of their way to say that, I guess depending on effort required, or perhaps didn't care originally but then developed some degree of care as a result of the annoyance they felt at being exposed to something)... or maybe it just means "I don't like what you said/did" or "I'm annoyed by you"... alternatively it could mean "I think you're stupid/worthless", "I disagree with you" or "I don't want you to speak/speak about this again", or similar.

Anyhow, what is the most appropriate way to respond to this? It seems like an emotionally charged statement that warrants, perhaps being completely ignored, or maybe a measured response seeking to find some understanding or common ground, though a witty retort could be appropriate if respectful (I don't believe 2 wrongs make a right, unless the first wrong somewhat necessitates the second, if that makes sense). That said, I'm open to hearing any kind of replies that might be given, regardless of how cordial/civil (or not) they are.

You find someone interesting on Instagram (or Tinder/happn/Bumble if they left their IG handle there), though their profile is restricted. You add that person, which accepts you, sometimes after two or three months. You leave a private message to that person, thanking it for accepting you as a follower, and asking if it wants to talk. Then, silence. Or worse yet, exchanges a few phrases and then ghosts you out of nowhere, without explanation or if you didn't said anything rude.

I mean, no one owes anyone anything in a situation like that, of course, but why bother opening a pathway in the first place, instead of just refusing? And if you find that other not really interesting after some conversation, though not really creepy or weird or over-the-top, why not be polite and say "look, this is not going to work, I don't want to talk to you anymore" or "this thing you said is a red flag for me, bye, take care"?

What bothers me is like, don't we talk anymore like normal people are supposed to? Have personal connections become so disposable like that? Or am I just freaking out and perhaps just need to find out somewhere in the real world where I could bond more easily with real people?

Met a 22 yo in a group I am involved in, she asked if I wanted a lift to a meeting, there and back. I don't know her very well but she's young a lot younger than me by 10years.

So talking on the way back she mentions antidepressants, I too take anti depressants, the conversation moves towards SSRIs and sex. I panic because that shit makes me supper uncomfortable, she said some stuff that was a blatant hint. Anyway me and her have activity later in the week for the group we're in, she's invited me out for a drink after and being friendly and uncomfortable I said yea sure.

How best to proceed? I don't want things to be weird and our group get weird as a result. I wish I could set boundaries.

Worth mentioning I have crazy anxiety so don't judge too hard I mostly run on auto pilot in those situations.

Edit: I had someone comment one time when I did, and it was kind of weird and embarrassing? But it seemed like a fairly normal thing to do, so I thought I'd ask.

I want to get a head start on the technique d'informatique college course i am going to take next (school) year, and i figured comptia A+ is as good a place as any to start.

I'm on a social network where people with IT experience sometimes help other people. Some of them don't want their work to be free (to avoid abuse of free work) but they also don't want to charge money. So we thought that in exchange we could ask for small donations for some NGO.

Do you know of any service or NGO that accepts small donations via Paypal and that also offers the possibility of indicating an arbitrary email address as proof that the donation was made? For example:

Alice helps Bob to fix his computer. After that, Bob should make small donation to some NGO and put [email protected] so Alice can have a donation proof in her email account.

For me it would probably be Canada. Seems like we share alot of values with them, and we could do more trading than we do today.

Especially if they also will have tensions with the US, it would be a win win.

But what do you guys think? Northern Africa would be an obvious choice in the future, but I don't know if they're ready.

PS. This is not a post talking about leave the US entirely. Ofc not. It would just be better for us to work with others and expand our worldview a little.

Hi lemmings I am self employed and travel full time.

I work remotely and have a 2TB external drive which I work from, I sync some of those files to my google drive.

Later this year I will be in several African countries and my need for a full and complete backup is weighing heavy on my mind.

What I would like from a cloud service is to backup all my files remotely and then as I work on them locally from my local external drive they are then syncd back to the cloud. This essentially gives me one local copy and one cloud copy at all times.

Currently Google cloud gives me this, but I can't expand my storage due to my legacy GAFYD account.

Obviously price is a factor, but also being able to sync my local files is most important. I've looked at BackBlaze but I'm unsure which product category I fit into and if it would work for me, but I'm willing to try.

I was going through my Wal-Mart+ subscription plan that I got for free and I saw their offers. One of which was EMeals, that was a 60-day trial. I thought that this was like Blue Apron or other meal delivery services so I thought I'd take a crack at it and hope that it would get me on a path to eat better.

Turns out, it's just a meal planner. And it's absurd to me why and how would anyone pay for something when there are countless and countless recipes and meal planners readily available for free. Who'd the fuck would want to pay for a planner? That's like paying for a calendar app.

Compare to cookies. I use two extensions. The first accepts all cookies to bypass cookie banners. The second deletes all non white listed cookies on closing the page. This works well for me since I seldom have more than 20 pages open, and I constantly close them.

Is there a way to avoid browser fingerprinting like this at all (with potential qol benefits) or am I extra screwed because I do things like this in addition to running Linux on a computer I built?

I’m totally new to photography and want to get my first camera. I’ll mainly be using it for nature photography while hiking and traveling.

My only focus is on photos of the highest possible quality.

My budget is around $600, and I’ll also need essential accessories, but don't know what I'd need, like a lens?

Not open to refurbished, as I'm buying in Vietnam.
