Mentre i venti politici si spostano in tutto il mondo, il mondo digitale non è immune dalla turbolenza. I governi e le organizzazioni di tutto il mondo stanno rivalutando le loro dipendenze, in particolare quelle legate alle grandi aziende tecnologiche centralizzate.

Mentre i titoli dei giornali dipingono un mondo che si frantuma in linea di condotta, la comunità open source sta silenziosamente facendo ciò che ha sempre fatto meglio; costruendo strumenti globali per la libertà globale.

Un esempio recente di questo è un'iniziativa OS dell'UE - un modello europeo per una distribuzione Linux connessa a Linux a circuito chiuso e limitata a KDE Plasma - per uso pubblico.

Sebbene tecnicamente non sia un nuovo sistema operativo, EU OS funge da proof-of-concept per la distribuzione di un sistema Linux.

Il progetto ha messo insieme informazioni su dispiegamenti governativi come LiMux in Germania e GendBuntu in Francia, e sostiene il denaro pubblico, la filosofia del codice pubblico.

Tuttavia, c'è un motivo per un'inclusione più ampia del sistema operativo senza ricorrere a una narrativa popolare della sovranità dell'UE.

Mentre questa denominazione sta cercando di affrontare una narrazione, una distribuzione Linux multipla dovrebbe essere integrata nella strategia di qualsiasi governo.

L'attuale direzione Fedora + KDE è matura, ma basandosi su una distro e un ambiente desktop introduce rischi evitabili. Invece, sarebbe saggio per tutti i governanti abbracciare alternative come Aeon con GNOME, insieme a un'altra scelta immutabile basata sul plasma di Kalpa.

• Perche'? La sicurezza. Diverse distribuzioni e desktop riducono il rischio di un singolo punto di errore. Se emergono vulnerabilità, non avranno un impatto contemporaneamente su tutti i sistemi.

Un altro motivo è l'esperienza utente su misura. GNOME offre una semplice interfaccia per gli utenti dell'ufficio generale, mentre le funzionalità dell'utente di alimentazione di KDE potrebbero essere più appropriate per gli utenti tecnici.

Come sistemi operativi immutabili con aggiornamenti transazionali, Aeon e Kalpa condividono lo stesso nucleo robusto derivante dagli aggiornamenti Tumbleweed, che offrono rollback, integrità del sistema e implementazioni a livello con aggiornamenti senza soluzione di continuità. Sia Aeon che Kalpa sono stati progettati da zero per ambienti moderni, containerizzati e ibridi cloud.

L’idea più ampia che ha bisogno di discutere per i governi va oltre ciò che è uno standard di distribuzione. In un’epoca di ransomware, cloud lock-in e capitalismo di sorveglianza, è tempo di andare oltre il tradizionale pensiero del sistema operativo desktop.

Il mondo open source ha già gli strumenti per andare avanti con un nuovo modo di pensare:

Immutabilità con gli aggiornamenti transazionali (MicroOS, Aeon, Kalpa, Kinoite)
Configurazione del sistema dichiarativo (Agama, Ansible)
Opzioni desktop per le diverse esigenze degli utenti (GNOME, KDE Plasma, Xfce)
Standard di identità e autenticazione aperti (LDAP, OpenID)
Formati di pacchetti trasparenti (Flatpak, RPM)

Non perderci nelle bandiere, nei loghi o nei titoli. Mentre la politica si sposta e le alleanze commerciali si sfilacciano, il movimento open source rimane uno degli sforzi umani più stabili, senza confini e collaborativi sul pianeta.

Se stai cercando la libertà, non guardare oltre questo spazio – è durato più a lungo dello standard monetario dell’UE.

Il futuro della tecnologia non deve essere americano. Non c’è bisogno di essere cinese. - Deve essere aperto.

[Canadian Prime Minister] Mark Carney Wednesday rejected accusations from his Conservative rival that he’s beholden to Beijing and said he thinks Canada’s trade-diversification strategy should prioritize boosting commerce with “like-minded countries” in Europe instead of China.

The Canadian government is trying to shift trade away from the United States in the face of growing protectionist tariff threats from U.S. President Donald Trump and his challenges to Canadian sovereignty, where he argues that Canada should be annexed as the “51st state” because it allegedly can’t exist without the U.S.

Asked if Canada should boost trade with China as it tries to reduce trade with the U.S., Mr. Carney pointed to Europe instead.

“We want to diversify with like-minded partners. That’s why I went to Europe in my first days as Prime Minister,” the Liberal Leader said during a campaign stop in Windsor, Ont., referring to a visit to Paris and London where he talked about Canadian companies playing a greater role in Europe’s military buildup.

“There are partners in Asia with whom we can build deeper ties,” Mr. Carney said. “But the partners in Asia that share our values don’t include China.”

It's a lot more polished and professional than LibreOffice or OpenOffice, both of which I've been using for a very long time.

In the latest Windows 11 preview build, Microsoft removed the “bypassnro” command, which let users skip signing into a Microsoft Account when installing Windows.

I don’t know if someone already knew, but I didn’t. I ordered a couple of shoes, and when I received the shipping information email, I read the courier name was Amazon shipping. Don’t know if it depends on the country too, I’m from Italy. Anyway, really unfortunate.

Recently found this while looking for a decent cloud provider to get away one drive. The monthy price varies for people with share in nubo and the ones that don't have the shares. Usually the price starts from 3,5 € for 5 gigs. This can be used as a alternative to google's gmail and drive.

I would like to switch away from Apple Music, and Spotify despite being a European company, is not a desirable option for me. What music streaming services would you recommend?

I managed to download a text-only list of the albums in my Apple Music library, so if there's a simple library import option then that would also be very helpful.
