Nine people have been killed and multiple others injured after the driver of a black SUV slammed into a crowd Saturday evening at a street festival in Vancouver celebrating the contributions of the Filipino Canadian community, police say.

It happened shortly after 8 p.m. PT, a few blocks from East 41st Avenue and Fraser Street, where the Lapu Lapu Day Block Party was winding down, after drawing up to 100,000 people through the day.

Interim Vancouver Police Chief Steve Rai says a 30-year-old Vancouver man is now in custody.

In a statement read Sunday morning, Prime Minister Mark Carney said more than 20 people were injured.

Carney said Canadians are heartbroken at what "police are describing as a car-ramming attack" that happened during "an occasion to gather and to celebrate the vibrancy of the Filipino-Canadian community."

An unidentified Ukrainian-made kamikaze drone, which likely did not reach its intended target, has been found.

What stands out is the simplicity of its design — and for the warhead, it uses a domestic thermobaric munition labeled MOA-900.

I've discovered Lemmy quite recently and I'm still learning how it works. One of the things I don't get is how small communities can become known? On the main page I can only see communities that I've already subscribed to. I can also see popular posts on this instance. But how post in a community can become popular if no one has already joined it?

I'm using an Arduino and through a library working with an IC (MCP2515, a CAN controller) over SPI. The IC indicates interrupts by causing a falling edge on an interrupt pin.

Components are connected using jumper wires on a breadboard.

  • When a logic analyzer is not attached, the IRQ gets called a few hundred times. It should only be called once. I thought it must be noise on the external interrupt pin but a pull-up doesn't help. I've tried the internal pullup and an external one.
  • Trying to see if there is a ton of interrupts from the IC, or an error internal to the Arduino, I attach my logic analyzer. Now it works perfect.

Any idea what might cause such a weird issue? Looking around I haven't found anything.

EDIT: I found a Reddit post for a different circuit where a user suggested placing a small capacitor to make the edges of a signal rise slower. This has fixed my problem.

Since I've already created a post: does anyone know why I was getting an unending number of interrupts? Why would the edges of the interrupt signal changing too fast cause something like this?

New vulnerabilities are surfacing. While most polls suggest the vast majority of Canadian adults are resolute in resisting any such takeover, the younger generation (18-35) is much more inclined – given certain favourable terms – to join the United States. The younger you are, the more likely you are to be susceptible to Trump and his appeals.

One of the most unacknowledged reasons is the failure of our school systems to teach the current generation about historic Canadian resistance to U.S. threats, incursions and trade sanctions going back to the American Revolution.

The result that alarmed Colin MacEachern, a former Halifax high school history educator now teaching in Australia, was the susceptibility of today’s students and their teachers to Trump’s bluster and blandishments.

MacEachern wrote on social media that his students would likely have no comprehension of the U.S. doctrine of “Manifest Destiny” or the American threat to Canada that was a major factor in nudging us toward Confederation.

It’s also fair to assume they have little or no knowledge of critical events of U.S. pressure on Canada such as the American invasion of Quebec in 1775, the War of 1812, the 1911 election reciprocity debate, the nuclear warheads controversy of the 1960s or American pressure to join the Iraq War in 2003.

Like the title says I want to install a Linux distro on my old laptop. I am currently looking into installing a SSD, but I want to learn a distro for fun! I haven't been able to find a good current resource aside from the Linux Masters here, so I am actually asking for help on the Internet! What distro is the best!?

https://imgur.com/8zldESD

EDIT: thanks so much everyone for your recommendations and advice! I installed a couple of different systems before deciding that I think the laptop may be able to support Fedora with KDE plasma (my favorite flavor of the installs so far) and I'm finding it really attractive and easy to use. You will see once I get some more disk space used how the performance holds up! If it runs into trouble I might switch the machine back over to mint with, that one seemed to run really well and was pretty familiar seeming from my Windows days, also seem more low end and booted a little faster. I think I might even end up switching to Linux on my desktop I had so much fun with it last night!! I really appreciate all the information and will probably be experimenting with a more lightweight build on this computer in the future! I'm a Linux user and it was easier than I ever thought! ❤️
