Actor John Leguizamo obliterated a small horse piñata while reciting a thorough catalogue of Spanish-language profanities on “The Daily Show” Tuesday in response to a New York Times/Siena poll that reported former President Trump leads President Biden among Latino voters.

Of the poll’s Hispanic respondents, 46 percent they would vote for Trump if the election were held today, and 40 percent said they would vote for Biden.

“You may be thinking, how is this possible? ‘Build the wall’ Donald Trump? ‘Mass deportations’ Donald Trump? ‘Guy who thinks Daddy Yankee is a baseball player’ Donald Trump?” asked Leguizamo, after pummeling the piñata.

“But the truth is, in 2024, Latino voters have something else on their minds,” he added, cutting to a news report about Latino voters prioritizing inflation.

That priority was reflected in the Times/Siena poll: 93 percent of Hispanic respondents rated current food and consumer goods prices negatively.

For Leguizamo, any newfound Latino support for Trump is unacceptable, inflation or not.

“Well, here’s what you can count on, though. No matter what Trump says about inflation, he doesn’t like us and he doesn’t want us here,” he said.

My wife and I finally had a political talk with her parents. They are 1st generation immigrants from South America. Moved here some 40 years ago.

We asked why they didn't like Biden.

"He's letting all the immigrants in!"

"But Dad... we're immigrants! Why do you think immigrants are bad?!"

"No! We're legal, we're not immigrants anymore"

"Dad... we're still immigrants. We came here legally, and we're citizens now, but we're immigrants."

"No.... he's letting in bad immigrants!"

"What do you mean? Illegal immigrants? No, he's not letting them in, he's just trying not to kill them"

"He's letting them in!"

"You mean asylum seekers? He's not just letting them in, he's trying to fix the application system to actually handle the applicants. They would be entering legally if they're accepted. They will work hard and earn their place in this country just like you did"

"No, no like us, we are legal! Let's change the subject, we are getting upset"

My wife has family in California who entered illegally but gained citizenship thanks to Clinton and they basically have the same argument as your in-laws

[–] [email protected] 18 points 7 months ago (1 children)

My brother's mother in law's whole family is the same, only they aren't even citizens after multiple decades living in the US. I really dont get it. My mom's an immigrant, but will never face any problems from it because she's from England, not El Salvador, but our whole family sees the good and hypocrisy of her being welcome here while Hispanic refugees are told to pound sand.

How can you deny others the same gifts that you were given?

"F U, I got mine" seems to be the common thread.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 6 months ago

Truly they have been assimilated

[–] [email protected] 4 points 6 months ago

Classic selfishness.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 6 months ago

Fuck you, Got mine, is like one of the base requirements of republicanism.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 6 months ago

Its OUR treehouse and OUR ladder, not YOURS

Well, everyone cannot have it. Just like we all can't make a living wage, be rich, or pull the shiny Charizard from a pack. It's not fair. But life's not fair. We need to start following the laws. Neither biden or Trump is doing it right IMO

[–] [email protected] 5 points 6 months ago

We could all have a living wage and a shiny Charizard, there isn't an intrinsic reason for that. The supply is intentionally limited.

[–] [email protected] 29 points 7 months ago

The only moral immigration is my immigration.

[–] [email protected] 17 points 6 months ago (2 children)

They forget what is legal today may be illegal tomorrow, such as abortions.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 6 months ago

Maybe even try to roll back changes and remove citizen ship granted in the past... I mean Sir they are trying toban chem trails for fucks sake. There is no limit to the stupidity

[–] [email protected] 8 points 6 months ago

Have you tried telling them what a dogwhistle is and how all the hue and cry about immigrants is just a dogwhistle about non-white people?

[–] [email protected] 5 points 6 months ago

Maybe in their mind, they came to USA to do honest hardworking business, unlike brown immigrants that are here to smuggle and rape and leeching of welfare... to them that's what setting them apart. That is not something they'll spell it out to you. They cannot elaborate or substantiate their beliefs in any meaningful way, but it's the root of their anti-immigration belief and their seeming head scratching hypocrisy nonetheless. But good luck poking into that. I'm sure it will be easy.

Let’s change the subject, we are getting upset”

universal code for

"I dont like being shown up and put in a corner by my own child, so change the fucking topic before I get angry and put you in your place."

[–] [email protected] -1 points 6 months ago

He's letting them in! They know who they are, they are why they came here in the first place haha. I wish I had an answer. Enforce the laws is all I can think of.

Any Latinos voting for Trump are a bunch of morons. Sadly many Latinos strive to be white and I guess they think supporting a white supremacist is gonna help them

[–] [email protected] 28 points 7 months ago

That seems to be a recurring theme with right-wing supporters, they dream of it one day being their turn - no matter how far-fetched that may be.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 7 months ago

I like to party with my peeps, cruise n creep, playing three card Monte on these crazy streets... I have watched that movie entirely too many times as a youngin

[–] [email protected] 5 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Firstly, if you've not watched Latin History for Morons you should.

Second, this just proves that conservative Latino voters aren't any more informed than non-Latino voters. Instead of blaming Trump for causing (or at least exacerbating) inflation during COVID, they'd rather blame Biden for not fixing it fast enough (irrespective of how much the president actually can affect the economy, and of how much better the US is doing compared to the rest of the world).

[–] [email protected] 1 points 7 months ago (1 children)

But, like DeSantis, he’ll take your vote

[–] [email protected] 3 points 7 months ago

Luigi isn't running for President.
