Links that open natively in Sync (like news articles) are often riddled with ads. Is there any way for the Sync shell to open through a Firefox based browser, which includes native ad block?

I'm not sure if this is related to what browsers I have on my phone. I do have one chromium based browser (kiwi) installed, and if getting rid of that would fix the problem I could look into deleting it and leaving only FF on my phone. But I'm not sure if it's related.

Try setting firefox to your default browser. That made it work for me.

I also set private DNS to dns.adguard.com

Ah thanks, that worked, or mostly anyway-- there's still a space for ads but they don't load, whereas on FF the spaces aren't even there.

Seconded. This is the answer.

Didn't do anything unfortunately. Using a private DNS worked mostly, so I guess that's good enough for now

In the setting under link handling, you can change the browser to "external" which uses your default.

True. The internal sync browser loads slightly faster but it's pretty much 1st world problems I suppose.

The dev is working on a native adblocker for Sync.

I have Firefox as my internal browser (probably because I disabled Chrome?). But add-ins don't work in the internal browser, only when links are opened externally.
