If the Borg would just ask me nicely I'd totally let myself be assimilated.
Same here ... but I'm also afraid of becoming the first organism to be unassimilated by the Borg because they don't want me either.
Species 329, the Kazon, were not selected for assimilation, therefore you would not be the first.
But were they encountered in the early 21st century, or later?
Later, but OP would have to wait until later too.
Sadly, they're unlikely to be alive at that point.
