If you find an injured owl:
Note your exact location so the owl can be released back where it came from. Contact a licensed wildlife rehabilitation specialist to get correct advice and immediate assistance.
Minimize stress for the owl. If you can catch it, toss a towel or sweater over it and get it in a cardboard box or pet carrier. It should have room to be comfortable but not so much it can panic and injure itself. If you can’t catch it, keep people and animals away until help can come.
Do not give food or water! If you feed them the wrong thing or give them water improperly, you can accidentally kill them. It can also cause problems if they require anesthesia once help arrives, complicating procedures and costing valuable time.
If it is a baby owl, and it looks safe and uninjured, leave it be. Time on the ground is part of their growing up. They can fly to some extent and climb trees. If animals or people are nearby, put it up on a branch so it’s safe. If it’s injured, follow the above advice.

OK, just saying it now. This isn't going to lead anywhere good.
Just curious as to your thoughts against it. It didn't sound like this was going to be a regular thing and doesn't come from donations to the instance, but from the admin themselves and nothing goes to an actual user.
I see it as something nice to the community, especially for ones that have a specific cause, and the grand prize isn't so much anyone should get upset about not getting it.
!remindme and other spam where humans should be talking doesn't drive discussion.
I can appreciate that. I do like how Lemmy lets you disable bot accounts if you don't want to see them though.
Things like the Reddit repost bot that was posting articles no one was interacting with or that news bias bot I can see why some would want them and some would hate them, but with the array of filters and blocks we have here, I feel it hasn't felt like as big an issue.
For something like the Lemmy Silver thing, being temporary and being used since we don't have any kind of polling feature I feel it gets a bit of a pass. Would I want to see more of it? Not necessarily. I'd love to get some type of internal polling though. I do it for a few weeks straight by people's direct interactions with my posts for the Owl of the Year, and it's pretty time consuming to monitor.
