what-the-hell starting to feel like all this plastic business might not be good for the long term health of the planet

The planet is fine, it will be fine long after we are gone.

It is our civilization is seems to be fucked.

Sure but I'm including the biosphere as a part of the planet. Rocks are cool and all but life is much cooler imo

Yeah. There'll probably be a long period before plastic can be biodegraded, like it happened for wool/cellulose in pre-historic periods.

At some point, a mushroom will learn how to use it efficiently and then it will all be degraded.

We will be long gone by then.
