Also keep this in mind when a company claims to be powered by 100% renewable energy. For example AWS claims their Ashburn facility (US-East-1) is 100% Renewable but that's total horse shit. The grid they're on doesn't get enough of its production from renewables for Amazon to to that. They're just buying carbon credits for all the shit our corporations and government run on their hardware.
I'm getting to a point where it's my belief that if you can't host stuff yourself at home, you shouldn't be trusting the cloud to host it because all you're doing is paying someone to kill our planet for us. AI, Crypto, certain AAA gaming titles, all of them unethical
At least they bought carbon credits, which means some green energy producer elsewhere got a subsidy
Fix the energy production sector and you'll fix the pollution
Gods I wish. The offsets program is mostly green-washing. Relevant Climate Town video
Exactly. They're paying some guy in India to say he planted a tree.
The whole carbon-credits market is riddled with fraud. It's just another free-marketeers' wet dream that's unworkable in real life.
And central steering is prone to corruption. What do you propose then?
