Linux is a family of open source Unix-like operating systems based on the Linux kernel, an operating system kernel first released on September 17, 1991 by Linus Torvalds. Linux is typically packaged in a Linux distribution (or distro for short).
Distributions include the Linux kernel and supporting system software and libraries, many of which are provided by the GNU Project. Many Linux distributions use the word "Linux" in their name, but the Free Software Foundation uses the name GNU/Linux to emphasize the importance of GNU software, causing some controversy.

It is one of the main reasons I consider micro blogging a fundamentally flawed concept. Almost all the interesting content is too long for micro blog posts.
I feel like it's just people using it for what's not the intended purpose.
Yeah, those are the ones producing all the interesting content on there. The rest is pretty much just a worse RSS.

It is pretty much a mix of bad chat, bad RSS and content too large for it.
Are you really asking me to explain the idea of microblogging?
I am asking what you consider the intended purpose.
I mean besides the three things I mentioned I have only ever seen the initial Twitter spin of "Look, I am pooping/eating/... now" which seems to have largely disappeared (and for good reason).
