Firefox needs to have some courage. Get rid of all those fake funding by Ad companies. Block Ads and trackers by default. Actually. Dont use damn Google as that contract will run out anyways.

Chrome is the Google browser. Firefox simply offering nothing more (on the outside) than it.

What do you think? Do you use Firefox out of the Box? Or another browser?

On Android using Bromite and Mull (with uBlock). Have seen here mention of Chromite. A quick search shows that it is a fork of Bromite. Has anyone undertaken a meaningful real world comparison or general experience?

So, this might seem like a stupid question on face value, but I'll go further in detail.

Everyone talks about getting a personal website so you can freely express yourself without getting beaten up by typical Social Media companies. While I fully agree with that, there are a few issues I have thought of:

Firstly, (assuming self-hosting isnt an option) won't you have to use google or AWS to host your website? And if you post something "they don't like", nothing is stopping them from just ban-hammering your website.

Secondly, even if you get a stable host, getting a domain is a completely different issue with the same causes; they could just revoke your domain if, again, you say something "they don't like".

With all that being said, would anyone have any remedies for these issues? Are there any privacy/free-speech respecting web hosts and domain suppliers?

Hello lemmings lemmons and any other lemm out there. I’ve always wanted to try to switch to more privacy focused options but it’s always been difficult for me as I’m not really tech savvy and frankly for a very long time haven’t really cared about privacy.

Transitioning has also been hard since I feel like I’m pretty much the antithesis of this community: using an iPhone and 2 windows computers (one for home use and one for my college classes on campus) and use OneDrive to sync work between the 3 devices.

Pretty much every account I have is under my gmail account and a second back up email is also under gmail.

Frankly I’m sure this is the highest form of insult to this community but I use edge simply because I’ve given up trying to fight Microsoft

So it’s been a challenge to switch but for browsers and just copy paste all my bookmarks and saved passwords when I download Firefox on my phone and computers but as for email and online accounts switching off that gmail account seems daunting but not impossible and I have no idea what to do to replace OneDrive since it is useful and works in file explorer with no extra software

Hello everyone, I'm in search of a new Android browser. Currently, I'm using Via browser, which is lightweight and functions well with essential features. However, the only thing it lacks is a tracker library blocker. I'm contemplating switching to Mozilla Fennec, which does have a library blocker, but I'd prefer something as minimalistic as Via, which I believe is only around 2 MB in size

I was a user on Telegram from India.

Telegram is not sending text messages because I don't have a premium account. And many features are locked in premium.

Currently, Telegram doesn't allow users to create or log in to accounts via third-party apps. Also, I need an official telegram (a must from the Play Store). (Not even the apk from their own website.) To receive a login code.

Do you guys ever feel that telegram has become so much worse?

I currently have all my emails with Mailbox.org and I've just moved my websites to Infomaniak, I'm thinking of moving my emails there too. I noted that they also have a product called KSuite which looks like a G Suite / Office 365 Online alternative. Does anyone have any experience of using it? Or are there better solutions out there? A mum had to take action to prove not every road in Wales has a 20mph speed limit after an insurance firm voided her son's insurance policy.

Welsh television presenter Jess Davies explained that her younger brother saw his car insurance voided as a result of the vehicle's black box recording his speed and seemingly deciding he was constantly exceeding the speed limit. Chromium (Cromite) - no sync of any kind. Otherwise, no complaints except the menu item bloat.

FF Stable - no about:config, comes with a ton of things that need turned off.

FF Beta/Nightly/Mull - has FFSync, but missing Chrome's rotate-to-fullscreen functionality.

All Android Browsers - too many menu items.

FF: Customize, What's New, Help, Addons should all be under Settings. Chromium also has full menu that mostly is never used. View Source on a mobile browser...really why?

It doesnt make much sense to have a movable toolbar if you still have to use both hands to get to the bookmarks button/menu. I'd be happy with either an organized, uncluttered menu, or one where certain items could be hidden/removed from the main menu.

Brave - I wish I could stick with them. Everything works and they have it all. Full non-Google sync, better video playback control, nicer UI, dual toolbars. I just can't with the way they operate, adding bad features and then saying oops every time.

How do we get the perfect browser?

In my mind, it looks like Cromite, has the internals of FF (gecko engine), FOSS, can rotate the phone into full screen video, with sync implemented. And of course all privacy settings setup like Mull.

Anyone else spot this unicorn?

The Chrome team says they're not going to pursue Web Integrity but...

it is piloting a new Android WebView Media Integrity API that’s “narrowly scoped, and only targets WebViews embedded in apps.”

They say its because the team "heard your feedback." I'm sure that's true, and I can wildly speculate that all the current anti-trust attention was a factor too.

Many said we couldn’t stop it. We, like many, applied pressure, and they backed the fuck off.

We have no room for complacency now though. Google cannot be allowed to dictate web standards. Firefox needs to eat into that Chromium market share.

This year we made good progress. You know, Linux gaming becoming better, Reddit fucking up, Metaverse failing etc. But on the other hand Big Tech has or are planning to make some moves. Such as, Google's Web Enviroment Integrity API (EDIT: they backed off), UK's encryption bill, etc.

So what do you think of the future? I'm currently optimistic. I think the best recent event was Reddit fucking up. Obviously one of the biggest information sources going down that path isn't something to celebrate. But it was bound to happen. I believe decentralized social networks becoming more popular is what Aaron Swartz would have wanted if he saw how Reddit was being managed.

for anyone using Mull on Android, since i'm using it that the webview i see in apps like Feeder seems to be using Mull, although when checking the implementation in Dev Options, it does look (from logo and name lol) like normal Chromium webview

what's really going on here, and how could i have properly checked it myself?
