Plasma 6 Bugs

If you encounter a bug, proceed to https://bugs.kde.org, check whether it has been reported.

If it hasn't, report it yourself.

PLEASE THINK CAREFULLY BEFORE POSTING HERE.

Developers do not look for reports on social media, so they will not see it and all it does is clutter up the feed.

Not sure if it's okay to ask for support in here, I'm just giving it a try. ๐Ÿ™‚

I'm using Manjaro Linux with KDE 5.26, and I thought in this release touchpad gestures should be working out of the box, but I was wrong. In an X11 session, I got three-finger swipe up/down to switch virtual desktops, and in Wayland I just get two fingers for scrolling, everything else doesn't seem to work.

How can I enable all the touchpad gestures?

I began distro hopping in 2021, with a slight break in 2022, before coming back full swing this year. After a while of trying almost anything that seemed interesting to me, tinkering, and learning about Linux as a whole, I've absolutely fallen in LOVE with KDE as a whole. I'll mainly be talking about the desktop, here.

I've a hard time using other stuff now, with how well Plasma fits my use-case as well as just how customizable it is. I even made my desktop sorta like GNOME, in a setup I jokingly call 'KNOME'. Yes, name 100% stolen. Works just like Plasma with some of the looks that I like from GNOME.

Beyond that, I do need to mention I run Arch [btw] for this, but I absolutely love how quick and efficiently updates are delivered as well as how the community is kept-up with. I know there are distro differences, but from my experience on Arch, KDE updates typically go great and SUPER quick / painless.

The community being kept-up with the development process also really helps everything feel more engaging and, therefor, easy to engage with. I was VERY scared about posting on Linux forums, boards and threads, but the KDE community was honestly a large part of the reason I opened up at all, and I've made some great friends along the way!

I look heavily forward to using a KDE phone as soon as possible, as well as Big Screen. I'm fully invested in KDE from here on out. Thank you to everyone for working so hard to make KDE what it is!

For the last bit of this, I'd like to give special thanks to Nicco Loves Linux on YouTube, for making such great KDE and Linux content in general. Their videos are a big reason I'm so comfortable with KDE today! If they happen to be here, thank you so much! Love your videos!

Picture of desktop for those wondering what KNOME is. As for the point of this post? Just wanted to show some love to the devs, kontributors, and the kommunity. Hope that's okay!

I use my own custom keyboard layout based on the US International layout that adds in all the symbols needed to write in all Latin script European languages, such as ฤ, ฤง, รฐ, ลŸ, ล‚, lยทl, ล‘, ลฏ... Most are created via dead keys, others such as รธ, รฆ, ษ™ are added into the third and fourth levels (AltGr and Shift). I find it very useful as I write in different language and have to input a lot of names from all over the world for work. It's not optimized for any language, but is reasonably easy to use for all of them.

Originally I had used a keyboard layout creator on Windows, but when it came to recreate it on Linux I had to resort to editing system files: I mapped every key by duplicating and editing one of the layouts found in the /usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols/us file, gave it a new name and then edited /usr/share/X11/xkb/rules/base to add the name of the new layout. Logout, login again and there the new layout was, perfectly functional.

This system is not practical at all though, especially because some updates (not all) rewrite the files and revert my keyboard to normal US international, so I have to copy-paste the layout again. Plus, I don't know if xkb is one day going to be deprecated, as it is part of X11, leaving me without my layout.

Is there any "proper" way to create a layout and have it recognized by Plasma possibily without editing system files?

Edit: It was built into the MX theme.

I just installed MX Linux KDE and there's a clock widget in the top right that I can't seem to remove. Also it seems to be persistent between workspaces. How can I get rid of this? It disappeared when I tried to edit the regular widgets and then came back when I was out of edit mode.

Any idea?

Cool KDE Plasma trick: [Meta] + [v]

You know how you can use [Ctrl] + [v] to paste in place the last thing you copied to the clipboard, right?

A cool and productive-enhancing variant of that available in #KDE 's #Plasma desktop is that, when copying and pasting a lot of different things, you can hold down the [Meta] ("Windows") key and hit [v], and a list of all the elements available on the clipboard will pop up so you can choose what to paste next.

Hello, I use the terminal (F4) option in Dolphin all the time. Until tonight, the terminal window would change depending on whether I was in my local box or my server. Today, I noticed that the terminal window would NOT reflect my server box even though the GUI window to my server was active. Is this a new bug, or a new 'feature'?

Hi

I have a laptop with Ryzen 5900 HX and nvidia RTX 3070 GPU with kubuntu 22.04 (kernel 5.15) installed. The thing is I tried to switch the driver from 520 (it freezes quite often on when entering the desktop and sometimes freeze when doing normal activities like browsing) to 440 (lesser freeze But it still happened randomly). the current solution: hard-reset the computer, which is a notoriously bad solution. So, I have an idea by wipeout everything and downgrade to Kubuntu 20.04 which is older. But, I think it is much more stable. Do you think downgrading is good idea?

Hello! Yesterday I submitted my first merge request to a KDE software! I forked the repo, applied the edits, committed them and pushed to my fork, and then from gitlab created a merge request. after a few hours, the author pushed something into the master, making my merge request 1 commit behind the master. On the merge request details page, I now get this error:

Merge blocked: the source branch must be rebased onto the target branch. [rebase without pipeline] [rebase]

If I try to click on [rebase], I get this red error:

Source branch is protected from force push

what should I do to make my merge request "mergeable" again?
