Edit: I figured it out. It was caused by the User-Agent Switcher and Manager addon, I use it to switch user agents on one site. I switched it to whitelist mode in the settings and now it works.

Like when I try to log into chat.openai.com, I click the checkbox that I'm human and it just keeps reloading that checkbox without progressing the page. But when I open the tab in a Firefox container (which you can install with the Firefox Multi-Account container addon), it works.

I want it to work without a container open.

Personally, while I've been using Tab Session Manager for years, I've had lots of issues with it. There have been a few times where all my sessions would be completely wiped after restarting Firefox or having it crash, which is why I have the backup folder setting enabled. Very occasionally within the past few years, but much more often lately, when I'd try to restore sessions, all of which consist of 100s of tabs, I'd find a bunch of tabs missing, being replaced with blank new tab pages. Also note that this has happened across different computers and Firefox installations.

Looking at the changes / commits made to the extension since its last update made last September, the developer has only updated the readme page and a few other non-code related things. there are hundreds of unaddressed issues on the repo.

It seems like I should really move away from it, what are alternative extensions you would recommend?

Was casually reading through Firefox release notes for version 115, and in "Changes" section there is an introduction of a new back-end feature that restricts extensions behavior

We have introduced a new back-end feature to only allow some extensions monitored by Mozilla to run on specific websites for various reasons, including security concerns.

This feature is obviously still under development, but it already forced people to look for fixes. This suggests the user-unfriendliness of this feature, which may be related to the goals that the infamous Web Integrity API is seeking: partly, controlling and limiting extensions, which are there for the community(!)

I, of course, understand that this update dates back to 4th of July 2023 - some time before this DRM-the-web thing exploded, but still it contradicts things that Mozilla stated in opposition of Google's plan to hijack [even more] the internet.

How long before the YouTube page will be too private, sensitive and important to allow uBlock Origin from running on it? Will Mozilla decide that youtube.com is "quarantined domain" or will it accept suggestions from its monopoly colleagues?

This ~~feature~~ bug can be fixed by going to about:config and setting "extensions.quarantinedDomains.enabled" to "False". For now.

Not trying to make a fuss and/or cause a hysteria, just pointing out that such a thing was introduced and slipped under the radar (haven't seen a discussion about this on the internet). Mozilla may have other intentions for it, but it doesn't look like something made truly "for the people, not for profit" as some of Mozilla's slogans state.

Would really like to jump ship from Brave back to Firefox, but the lack of ad blocking on iOS is somewhat of a blocker.

I’ve tried strict tracking protection and Firefox focus, but it doesn’t quite get the job done without filter lists.

Do we know of any solutions or projected feature releases that could improve the situation?

I've recently switched to Firefox and I feel like it's overall a better experience – I just really miss the convenience of installing Progressive Web Applications as a standalone apps, or creating shortcuts from existing websites.

The benefit of this is that you can open them as a separate window, keeping the viewport size and hiding the URL bar.

Is there any viable alternative to this in Firefox?

I've been using Consent-O-Matic which works pretty well but built into the browser? Wow.

We've all turned off trimURLs but what else is hiding in there?

Why

On Reddit, I had a simple search keyword for navigating directly to subreddits, where I could just type r firefox and be taken to reddit.com/r/firefox.

I wanted to have the same behavior for Lemmy, but the Fediverse makes this a lot more complicated.

So I made Lemmy Go to try and make it as simple as possible to jump to a community, or even find new ones more easily.

It's still a work in progress, so it might be a bit unstable and missing a bunch of features. But I've been using it myself for a few days, and it's already pretty helpful.

Usage

Type lg followed by a space (some browsers also accept tab instead), and then type the name of the community you're looking for.

Example: lg linux

Lemmy Go will search its database for any community that has the text linux in its name (e.g. linux_gaming) or title (Linux Gaming).

If you just type a community name and press enter, Lemmy Go will take you to the most popular community from that list.

If you don't press enter right away, you will be shown a list of communities that match that query. You can then select the specific one you want.

Preferred Instance

If you set your preferred instance in the user settings (click the extension icon), Lemmy Go will try its best to navigate to that community in your preferred instance, although this isn't always possible (in which case Lemmy Go will just navigate to the remote instance instead).

For instance, if your preferred instance is set to lemmy.ml and you select [email protected], Lemmy Go will take you to lemmy.ml/c/[email protected].

But if lemmy.ml blocks the lemmy.world instance, then Lemmy Go will take you to lemmy.world/c/firefox instead.

Thought I'd never see the day when Firefox would match Chrome on Speedometer.

When going to use Adobe express on Firefox it comes up with the following message, saying that this browser doesn't play well with others and that I should use Safari, Google Chrome, or Microsoft Edge instead.

I just moved to Firefox and was wondering what extensions/themes people use and what's reccomended

Which extensions do you like the most for the usecase described in the title?

Looking to move to Firefox but I definitely need something like edge drop. I know FF used to have a very similar product but it was discontinued. Any suggestions?
