I had a hard time setting up the new sync server for Firefox which is written in Rust because the documentation is very bad.

After a lot of try and error and reading comments of people in the issue tracker I finally was able to set it up and run it successfully.

Mostly for my future self, but perhaps it also helps other people I documented it with help of a README and a docker-compose.yaml which makes it easy for me to upgrade if necessary and also to store all the other config files with examples.

My Google search isn't working correctly. I can use a widget but then I have two search bars.

Any ideas

Hi! I was recently looking for Violentmonkey scripts to exactly fulfill the purpose of solving captchas automatically and I came across this curious extension which is also a Violentmonkey script.

Has anyone else heard of it? I honestly haven't at all. The extension itself is supposed to be completely open source and has been working really well for me.

To install the extension you need to head over to their Github and download their .xpi and be strictly in Firefox Nightly as (and this may be a problem for many) you need to disable an option in about:config to install unsigned extensions within Firefox Nightly.

Next, you need to install a package via npm called nocaptchaai-puppeteer that "simulates" human touches.

Then you need to go to their website and create a free account and put your API KEY in the extension and that's it, just click on the "settings" buttons inside the extension and you can enable them, remember to activate the extension with the top right button.

Now, the process itself to me seems very invasive as I need a package on my host machine and I need to install an unsigned extension and not to mention that you need to register with a real email, you can't use temporary or masked emails, but other than that it really works very well.

The extension itself works fine and has nothing that tells you "You need to pay to use it", as with the free API you can solve 200 captchas per day and in my opinion that is enough for anyone who uses their PC on a regular basis.

Obviously this post is not an ad and I have 0 relationship with its creators, also if anyone wants I can post in the comments a mini guide on how to configure the extension step by step, and if anyone is interested also here is my referral code, it is supposed that if you register with that we both gain more daily API uses but no idea, if you prefer you can register directly from their website!

What if we got to easily choose our web browser, and didn’t have to rely on complex operating system settings to change the pre-installed default?

Happened to discover this a while ago.

If an ad starts playing in the main window that moves the livestream to a small window in the top right corner, do the following:

  1. Mute the main stream.
  2. Hover your mouse over to the tiny window and click the PiP button.
  3. Unmute the PiP stream

You can now continue to watch the livestream uninterrupted. Once the ad concludes, the PiP pop-up window automatically closes and the main stream continues.

I usually enlarge the PiP window and move it over the ad to cover it.

This is basically a manual method of what add-ons like Alternate Player for Twitch.tv do.

I've seen this not documented anywhere, so I'm just writing this down here. You'll need to know this so your .desktop file can set your wm/taskbar icon correctly.

The .desktop file that Nightly installs (when it asks you if you want it to become your default browser) isn't aware of Nightly, and incorrectly sets StartupWMClass to firefox, thus Nightly will get a generic icon.

I understand why they deactivate add-ons for those sites, but is there maybe a setting in about:config I can toggle, or a config file I can edit, or something along those lines, that will circumvent this restriction?

Cheers big ears.

Guys can you share the primary reason when millions of peoples using chrome, you just still stuck into firefox ?

For me the reason is various addons are available and less restriction than chrome.

In terms of the most balanced in speed, consistency in page rendering and good default settings, is there a clear winner?

Personally I've been using both Dark Reader and Midnight Lizard on different devices and I can't say I noticed much of a difference in terms of performance, what I did notice is that Dark Reader seems to have better defaults, but many complain that it slows down page loading a ton, I haven't heard the same about Midnight Lizard, but maybe that is by virtue that it has way way fewer installations and therefore fewer people talking about it.
Do you know if I've missed one and there is a totally different extension that does even better than both?

Wondering if it's possible to have these types of popups be effected by themes, and if so, how to do it? Is it possible using Firefox Colour?

Do anyone faced this issue while downloading something? Am using miui 12.5.2 and latest firefox version. How to fix it?

Tried the @Vivaldi browser. A good example of when "the more the better" doesn't work. Sure it is an IMHO.

Still very interesting. Having your emails and calendars integrated into a browser is a good alternative when OS-built-in tools for this are crap.

Now back to @firefox.

Hey all, I'm trying to remove the bar that has "REMOVE" spammed in red across it. Anyone able to provide some insight/help? Here is my current userChrome.css file

#main-window[tabsintitlebar="true"]:not([extradragspace="true"]) #TabsToolbar > .toolbar-items { opacity: 0; pointer-events: none; } #main-window:not([tabsintitlebar="true"]) #TabsToolbar { visibility: collapse !important; } #sidebar-box[sidebarcommand="treestyletab_piro_sakura_ne_jp-sidebar-action"] #sidebar-header { display: none; } .tab { margin-left: 1px; margin-right: 1px; } /* Remove close button*/ .titlebar-buttonbox-container{ display:none }

For the past few weeks I’ve seen Firefox use up more memory in MacOS Activity monitor with less tabs. I really don’t feel like troubleshooting it though.

Summary

  • Mozilla has released security updates for Firefox and Thunderbird to fix a critical zero-day vulnerability that has been actively exploited in the wild.

  • The vulnerability, tracked as CVE-2023-4863, is a heap buffer overflow flaw in the WebP image format that could allow an attacker to execute arbitrary code on the victim's computer.

  • The vulnerability is suspected to target individuals who are at an elevated risk, such as activists, dissidents, and journalists.

  • Mozilla has released Firefox 117.0.1, Firefox ESR 115.2.1, Firefox ESR 102.15.1, Thunderbird 102.15.1, and Thunderbird 115.2.2 to fix the vulnerability.

  • Google has also released a fix for the vulnerability in Chrome.

Additional Details

  • The WebP image format is a modern image format that is designed to be more efficient than other image formats, such as JPEG and PNG.

  • The heap buffer overflow vulnerability occurs when Firefox or Thunderbird attempts to decode a specially crafted WebP image.

  • The vulnerability could allow an attacker to execute arbitrary code on the victim's computer by tricking them into opening a malicious WebP image.

  • Mozilla and Google have been working to fix the vulnerability since it was reported to them.

  • The security updates have been released for all supported versions of Firefox and Thunderbird.

  • Users are advised to update their browsers as soon as possible to protect themselves from this vulnerability.

I always had the tabs bar below the address bar and bookmark, where they obviously belong, until I recently reset firefox and now I just can't figure out how to get them back to their correct position.

How do I get the tabs between the bookmarks bar and the main browser window again?

This may occur on other sites, but I notice it often on YouTube when I fullscreen a video. To make it disappear, I have to mouse over a link that changes the URL in the bottom left. If a video is in fullscreen, I have to exit fullscreen to do that.

This issue still occurs in safe mode.

Been seeing an issue with downloading stuff from the Firefox Mobile app on Android. Sometimes when I press download on files or images, the download never actually happens; the file never appears in my phone's local files or in Firefox's download menu. There's no progress bar or any other indication that it even attempted to download. Usually only happens with either big files or when in areas of low connection. Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a fix?

An example of this is today: I went to download an image from a website while in an area of less than optimum connection. Firefox never attempted the download despite trying from birth the website and from the image in its own tab. Google Chrome was able to download the image with the same connectivity, albiet slower than normal (though it was only a second or two slower instead of being instantaneous).

I installed Firefox Flatpak on F38 and some video content is not working. Youtube and Netflix work fine, Prime Video does not. Videos on some website do not play, some give simple error messages wihtout details: NFL.com, tagesschau.de, ran.de and more do also not work.

So, something is wrong but i can not figure out what it is. Maybe it is connected to this issue. Can not figure out if it's in use or not, i guess it's not.

I did some websearch but couldn't find a solution. Does anyone of you know how to fix it?

A little while back Mozilla put out a post ushering addon developers to prep their addons but I haven't heard anything else since, I don't wanna update to early and loose everything I already got

This has been an issue for a long time. I’ve been trying to avoid Chromium based browsers, but Firefox seems to be unable to print a lot of web pages without cutting off the content between pages. This is Firefox specific, as it doesn’t happen with Chromium browsers. It’s really a pain in the ass when I need to print something I have to open another browser and print it from there. I see tons of complaints about this online going back for years. I just spent the past two hours trying (unsuccessfully) to print a recipe correctly. I eventually gave up, opened Edge and printed from there. The current state of web browsers is dogshit. It’s either give up all of your privacy or use broken stuff. Neither is good.

I'm having an issue when I try opening a game on Roblox, there's no popup and the following error message appears: "An error occurred trying to launch the experience. Please try again later." Is there anything I can do to make this work? Changing some settings or something?
