Dear Lemmy,

This adorable lady is Gravy. There was a song I was able to play for her on the Internet that I can't find anymore. Maybe because the rapper Yung Gravy, but he doesn't help either way.

I will type out the lyrics that I remember. "Gravy is good, Gravy is great. Gravy is good when you put it on a plate....roo toot roo tee too toot. I'll drink Gravy outta my boot....had a bad day? That's okay have some gravy and make it go away." There was also a person talking about being diagnosed with a gravy deficiency.

It was a 'local radio station type' of song that I saw on youtube. I don't remember much more. Sorry. I've been trying to search it, but it's getting harder and harder to search for information on the Internet.

One year, we decided to pass the new year eve in an uncle's house at some god forsaken hole with our dog. After a neverending trip during wich our dog farted in the car, we finally arrive. The said uncle was a radical ecologist, wich is not a problem per se, except when his only conversation subject is about the ecological collapse, not the ideal subject for a good atmosphere, with in addition to that my sister's BF, who was with us, doing his Mr. know-it-all show. Then we went to sleep, and i realize that i forgot my earplugs. No luck, everyone in my family was snoring very loudly, including the dog. Result: i didn't sleep at all and looked pretty much like a zombie the next morning.

If somebody you knew like a family member, partner or friend told you they had NPD would you still talk to them? Would it change how you feel about that person?

As someone with NPD I'm always worried about how having NPD would affect me socially. It's so stigmatised and people are always talking about how dangerous people with cluster B personality disorders are. I'm dating this guy at the minute. I really love him but I'm worried about how he would feel if he found out about my NPD. Would he still want to see me after what you see online about NPD? Should I ever tell him? Should I just keep it secret?

As of now I've told nobody about my diagnosis other than a few people at job interviews. What I'm basically asking here is 'How will NPD affect your social life?'.

I don't talk about politics or religion at the workplace, yet there is a drama queen that loves just blurting out what she thinks to everyone around.

My way to go so far has been to ignore her, but sometimes I just want to yell at her how incoherent she is.

Then I'd be the one starting drama I guess...

I'm looking for advice to deal with these kind of people. I don't want to work listening to conspiracy theories.

The house next door to me is going up for sale soon and I’d like to delay that process as much as possible. What would be the most annoying music I could play when prospective buyers are next door?

There's lots of things I like about Christmas but for me it's simple. I love the presents. Even if I don't like the present I love the thought of somebody thinking of me and putting hours into/using there own money to get me a gift.

My favorite that I've used for years, foursquare, is shutting down in a few days. Pretty bummed because I found some of the best restaurants I've ever been to with it. 15 years and thousands of reviews, all in the trash now.

Google maps is useless for most cities, in mine every restaurant has a 4.7-4.8, and seems gamed.

Yelp is an awful company I'd rather not use, and its based on top reviewers, rather than reviews.

Tripadvisor is missing way too much to be useful.

What are ppl using nowadays?

Coming up to Christmas I generally make some small donations. Some of these I ask for as Christmas gifts because I'm old and basically have very basic wants and needs so I'm hard to buy for.

Curious to hear if / what others do.

I've expanded my annual list to include:

  • Wikipedia
  • Lemmy.world (my home instance)
  • Mozilla (I'm not happy with how they spend their money necessarily but I'm very thankful to have Firefox)
  • Signal messenger
  • A few Ukrainian things (u24.gov.ua is the official site if this is your thing but there's a great lady on Reddit I give to occasionally too)
  • The guardian (I read so many articles from there linked on here that I feel like I should and I really appreciate the lack of paywall and easy cookie rejection but never use the site logged in)

Beyond the polite "Hey, how's it going". Close enough to hang out at each other's apartment, maybe even ask them to water your plants or feed your pet while you're away.

I know it’s a broad question, but I currently have T-Mobile and the price is alright but I have an iPhone 11 and looking to get a 16 Pro Max for myself and a 16 Pro. But, T-Mobile has mentioned it will mean an increase in my plan from $89 a month, for my current 2 iPhone 11’s and 2 Apple watches, to $180 monthly for 5G.

But, I’m getting older, so less deal savvy, not to mention aware of all the current cellphone carriers or what’s a deal these days… I would appreciate if anyone here could share their thoughts or recommendations on the matter. Seeing in the past, theres a large pool of wisdom hidden in here. TIA.

My grandparents practically don't leave their home anymore. So the next time I visit them, I would like to show them something they have not experienced or seen before.

I thought of taking them on a trip to different places using Google Earth (or something similar). I just want to go a little more interactive than just showing them videos or pictures.

I am limited to my laptop (and their TV + maybe a Chromecast).

Do you have any interesting internet things or places you would show your grandparents?

I've got heart problems which means my feet are pretty swollen, so normal shoes aren't really comfortable anymore. I've been wearing Alterras and I love them and the wide toe box, but the wide sizes are only in a boring color. So I'm looking for suggestions from you lovely folks.

I've been searching online for some trinket/budget gifts but couldn't find anything interesting. The person I have in mind for the gift is in his 60's, into tech and a geek, although the gift doesn't necessarily need to cater to his geeky side.

I'm just dropping the question here since Lemmy has a solid geek/tech userbase, and maybe some of you have better ideas than me.

TIA

Hey people, during my school years, we always had to ask the teacher to go to the bathroom. Like "May I use the bathroom?", if they said no we were left to our devices which I think is inhumane.( Was a victim myself) What do you guys think especially the teachers about this system considering how difficult it is to manage classroom discipline?

I've used Lemmur in the past but lately I've realized that the web client is perfectly usable on mobile, much more so than most other social media. This is probably a testament to non-profit-driven development because the web client is really light, scales perfectly to an app-like form factor, there's no weird behavior with the touchscreen instead of a mouse, and it also gives you all the features of the site instead of arbitrary not letting you do more advanced stuff because they want you to download the app. It also has the extra benefit that it syncs my browsing history to desktop so you pick up where you left off. Since making this latest account I have not felt the need to download an app at all and have been right at home using it from the browser.

Then again, I refuse to get the Reddit app and still use old.reddit.com on mobile (it's just as annoying as you assume and you have to zoom in and out to click on stuff but I'm used to it by now, also I'm barely using Reddit anymore so that helps too) so maybe I'm somewhat unique? Just curious as to if anyone else exclusively uses the Lemmy web client on mobile and what your thoughts on it. Those on the other side, are there any killer features that apps give that I'm missing?
