He doesn't fucking care. The whole campaign was about doing and saying whatever was needed to get elected so that he could avoid lawsuits, make a profit, and dismantle government. Rich and powerful supported him because they saw ways for themselves to get more rich and more powerful. The richest man on the planet went all in, and now is personally helping to eliminate government agencies that were investigating his own businesses. They don't care that the public gets unhappy, they've served their purpose.
This isn't a surprise, it's their plan going as intended.
It's a surprise to the utter dipshits in the public, who thought either that he would MAKE AMERICA GREAT, or that things couldn't possibly get worse in these wretched United States of America, so it didn't matter if a fascist was elected.
No argument, it's a surprise to the morons who were manipulated into voting for the guy, but most everyone else saw what was happening.
They should have thought more about his agenda beyond nodding along to his lies before voting for him. Although most people under-anticipated the insanity that has come to transpire, arguably making Trump's first term look tame in comparison, any level-headed person should still have been able to recognize the dangers inherent to the right's extremist rhetoric before the election and voted against it.
Just goes to show how easily swayed so many social media addicted Americans are, and although many of them might not admit it, tolerant of xenophobia and transphobia to the point of seeking perceived short-term gains at the expense of the civil rights and wellbeing of millions of their fellow Americans.

At this point, he's not only irreprarably gutting and destroying everything for consumers, everything for the environment, etc, he is also beheading the military to ensure he can just stay in power after these four years end.
Nobody does anything, everyone let it happen. Yeah yeah, sometimes someone resigns in protest, making it even easier for trump to do all this, and sometimes someone even speaks up and says the obvious: "I think this is bad!" Oooooh, color me impressed.
Trump is speed running the USA to a dictatorship and with now the military gutted, I'd say its too late to stop him.
Where from there? Once he has full control over the armed forces what are his limits? He can simply subjugate any country he wants. Don't want to be my slaves? Let me obliterate your capital and ask again. I truly see this as an option.

I think that right now, the USA is a bigger threat to the world than China and Russia have ever been. Its military is multiple times the size of everyone else combined, they have no sense of consequences for actions so nuking a nation is fine, what is the worst they can happen? Hell, I fully expect him to drop some on Mexico City just to send a message and for fun because the racists will feel there are too many Mexicans. Again, think I'm crazy? Do you really believe that Cheeto and his theocrazy guys would not be capable of doing this?
